Pedestrian sting scheduled for Friday

PHOENIX, ORE. —  Drivers beware! With back to school season here, local police agencies want drivers to be on the lookout for pedestrians.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Phoenix Police are teaming up Friday for a pedestrian sting.

They’ll be stopping those who don’t yield to pedestrians near Boltz and Main Street.

It’s in an area where Phoenix High School students typically cross. And with the Phoenix Interchange Project taking place, police say more caution needs to be taken.

Sgt. Dace Cochran with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says those who are pulled over could potentially face a fine of $260.

Sgt. Cochran said there will be plenty of warning signs, alerting drivers of what’s happening.

He also says typically only 1 in 3 drivers who are pulled over get cited, others are just given a warning.

The operation will take place from 10 am to 4pm Friday.
