Police warn residents about power company scam

Medford, Ore. — A warning from police tonight, never pay for an outstanding bill by putting money on a prepaid debit or credit card.

Medford Police say someone was recently scammed by impostors pretending to be from the power company. They say the business owner was told if he didn’t put the money on a prepaid visa card immediately, his power would be shut-off.

Sergeant Brent Mak from Medford Police says, “no legitimate business would have you go down and send money in on a prepaid visa card, that is clearly fraud.”

Sergeant Mak also says the worst part about sending money on a prepaid card is that anyone can access it and you will probably never get that money back.
