Prospect animal abuse

Medford, Ore. — A Prospect woman plead no contest to four counts of animal neglect on Tuesday.
Last July, investigators said they found more than 100 horses and cows on a property near Prospect.

The animals belonged to 87-year-old Rocky Sue Courtney and 63-year-old Douglas Shurtleff. Several of the animals were underweight. Prosecutors said Shurtleff and Courtney just couldn’t take care of all the animals.

On Tuesday, Courtney settled the case and was sentenced. She was given one day in jail, which she has already served. She will also be on probation for 18 months and cannot possess horses or cattle for five years.
