Shasta Elementary School third-graders go to outdoor school

Klamath Falls, Ore. – Moore Park served as a classroom for some elementary school students in Klamath Falls Wednesday. The field trip looked a little like summer vacation, but it also provided some in-depth study.

Students got to kayak at the Lakeshore Landing, and get a closer look at what lives in the lake. “I’ve been kind of surprised,” said student Caely Davis. “I found like, four snails.”

Teachers are hoping the day trip will spark interests that continue into summer. “We’re trying to teach kids how to love something beyond their Xbox” explained Shasta Principal David Wehr, “The love of kayaking, the love of being in nature – just the creation that’s all around them.”

And, it’s a good way to get into the swing of summer vacation.

The outdoor school day trip was organized by the Great Outdoor Alliance in cooperation with the Klamath County School District.
