Sheriffs Canvass Campsite in MacCallum Murder Investigation

It was round two for the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities, for a second time, going through the crime scene where they believe 34-year-old Chris Maccallum was killed.

About 10-people from the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office split up into three search teams.

“Got our search and rescue team out here along with our evidence tech,” said Lt. Bucky Jefferson with the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities, crossing their fingers and hoping to find some key evidence.

“See if we can locate anything we missed on the first search,” he continued.

it’s been more than a week since the body of 34-year-old Chris MacCallum was found at the bottom of a roughly 75-foot steep dropoff.

The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office says they’re investigating his death as a murder.

The campsite itself is located deep in the Applegate Recreation Area about four miles from where Applegate Road ends. It’s near the middle fork of the Applegate River and Oregon-California border, south of Applegate lake.

It’s a secluded, out of the way area — where MacCallum’s wife said authorities told her they found her husband with multiple gunshot wounds.

“We’re looking for some casings and anything we feel is pertinent to the case. We probably have a few persons of interest but no suspects at this time,” said Lt. Jefferson.

Detectives continue to work against the clock, hoping to find connections and answers before evidence and leads go cold.

“We’re following up on all leads, we’re talking to people,” Lt. Jefferson said.

Authorities, doing everything they can to find answers in the death of a young husband and father.

So far the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police and Medford Police Department have assisted in the investigation.
