Special Report: Social Media, Your Pictures, & Stalkers Part 1

It’s become our way of communication, you’re sharing your daily life with friends and family—but that’s not all—there are stalkers and thieves also tracking you and you don’t even know it.

“There are crooks out there who actually target individuals when they are not home maybe go to their home all coming through social media,” said former FBI agent Jeff Lanza.

We wanted to see just how easy it is to track someone down with a picture they post online.

That’s where Central Point resident Patricia Heath comes in, who primarily uses Facebook and Google Plus.

“It’s my way of keeping my family updated on how my life in proceeding and how we are donig and how we are interacting and the different things we do,” explained Heath.

And like many people, patricia’s phone often doubles as her camera.

“I’m posting all kinds of pictures. Places we go visit, trips we take, special occasions with friends all different kinds of things.”

She volunteered based on our Facebook request to check out how easy it is to track through social media.

To begin our experiment, we enabled all the GPS features on her phone.

NBC 5’s Kyle Aevermann told her to go anywhere in the valley she wanted to go without tellinghim, snap a picture and post it online.
