Spring storm brings power outages, downed trees

Medford, Ore. — A Spring storm brought unexpected power outages to Southern Oregon this week. Large gusts of wind are responsible for downed trees and large branches across the region, forcing folks in the Rogue Valley to clean up.

“It’s Spring, it’s a fight between Winter and Summer, and this is more of a winter-like storm,” Meteorologist Ryan Sandler said. “We had wind gusts as high as 47 miles an hour here at the airport, other places had high wind gusts, there were power outages in Grants Pass, so there’s been some widespread gusty winds.”

Those winds brought down branches across the valley, and took out power to multiple communities. According to Pacific Power’s website on Thursday morning, nearly 1,000 people without power in Medford. Power has since been restored.

“Anytime the wind’s above 40 miles an hour, in the rogue valley especially, we can see issues with power outages,” Sandler said.
