‘Weed Country Adventures’ mixes rafting with marijuana

Central Point, Ore. — Summer is here, and rafting is always a popular pastime on the Rogue, but a new company is hoping to enhance the experience with marijuana.

“This river is amazing in that you can be on it for only a mile, and you can take two days to do it if you want,” owner Mike Boutin said. “People who choose marijuana over alcohol still want to use their substance of choice, to enhance their experience.”

Boutin’s new business, ‘Weed Country Adventures,’ will offer guided rafting trips, with planned smoking breaks.

“We’re not going to use it openly, we’re not going to break the law, and we’re not going to offend our neighbors.”

Boutin said there’s no smoking on the river; instead, the group will take breaks on private property above the high water mark, and smoke out of view of the public. Even with those plans, Boutin admits it’s tough new territory.

“We’re sort of in like a little grey area, you know, we’re sort of pioneering something here,” Boutin said. “I did get a call from a Captain at the Sherrif’s department, we had a very good conversation, and I believe we’re exactly on the same page about what the legalities are, what my responsibilities are, in terms of how we conduct ourselves.”

Captain Snaith with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the conversation, and the legality of the business over the phone with NBC5 News.

While the marijuana use sets the company apart, Boutin is hoping his business will fit in.

“Hopefully people will see us a legitimate choice, give us a call, and we’ll be on the river all summer.”

Tours are already taking place, but are for adults 21 and up only. For more information, click here.
