Medford, Ore. — The Oregon Department of Forestry has confirmed that yesterday’s grass fire was human-caused. The area where the fire started appeared to be half mowed.
At about 11:45 Thursday morning a grass fire broke out in a farming field along Modoc Road.
More than 60 fire crews from the Oregon Department of Forestry, Jackson County Fire District 3, B.L.M., and the US Forest Service were all called in to fight the blaze.
Three helicopters were also used to dump water from a nearby reservoir onto the flames.
In all about 35 acres burned.
Fire fighter said aside from putting the fire out, one of thier main priorities is protecting the wildlife area at Table Rock.
100 firefighters will remain on scene overnight to monitor and put out in hot spots.
Update (6/19 2pm)The Modoc Road Fire has burned 50 acres so far and ODF as well as Fire District 3 are currently on scene. A second helicopter has been brought in and no structures or homes are threatened at this time.
Officials do not know how the fire started.
