Man answers escort ad, arrested at West Linn Police Station

0323 sex trafficking arrest West Linn, Ore. – Officers made an unusual arrest Tuesday after a man showed up at the West Linn Police Station expecting to meet with a teen for sex.

Portland NBC affiliate KGW reports West Linn police had posted ads on escort-related websites as a demonstration prior to teaching a class on investigating human trafficking.

38 people called about the number in the ad and one man, Rene Cruz Mesa, agreed to meet with the 19-year-old, who was actually an investigator.

When Cruz Mesa showed up at the station, he was arrested on prostitution charges, and released.

Officers say they had a good laugh, but in reality it’s truly sad. “This highlights a concerning issue facing the Portland metropolitan region,” said Chief Terry Timeus.
