According to the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety, on August 3rd, 2013, officers received a report of an unresponsive man lying by the side of the road in the 800 block of Fruitdale Drive in Grants Pass. They arrived to find a deceased Hispanic man, who police later identified as 36-year-old Juan Hernandez.
During the course of the investigation, Grants Pass police say they interviewed Kevin Scott Copeland as a witness to the crime. Years later, in March of 2016, an arrest warrant for murder and felon in possession of a firearm was issued for Copeland.
On Tuesday, Grants Pass Department of Public Safety officers were notified that Scottsdale police had arrested Copeland on the Oregon warrant. He was lodged at the Maricopa County Jail, and is awaiting extradition to Josephine County.
