Medford, Ore.- Medford School District emailed a letter to students and parents Thursday addressing the “creepy clown” craze sweeping the nation. In the letter, district leaders acknowledged rumors of clowns making threats against schools, saying “any acts of intimidation will not be tolerated in this community.”

The school district said it is in contact with Medford Police, which has not received any credible threats. Out of an abundance of caution, the district announced it will have an extra police presence around the schools Friday. The goal, it said, is for students to feel safe.

Additionally, the district asked parents to consider discouraging their students from dressing as clowns for the upcoming Halloween holiday.

The letter ends with a simple plea: “We all have a role to play in keeping our communities safe. See it. Report it. Deal in facts. Don’t spread rumors.”
