Oregon man cashes in lotto ticket 8 days before it expires

Salem, Ore. – A lucky Oregon Coast man is likely considering himself even luckier after he found a winning lottery ticket that was set to expire in a few days while he was cleaning.

The Oregon Lottery said Joemel Panisa bought the ticket on January 15, 2016 at a Newport market along Highway 101. Panisa then placed the ticket in an envelope and forgot about it.

Panisa was spending time at home due to recent winter weather, so he decided to clean his office. There, he found the ticket, checked the numbers online, and realized he had won $1 million.

The Lottery said Panisa had just eight days left to claim the prize or it would have expired.
