Ontario, Ore. (KTVB) — Oregon State Police say a kidnapping in Ontario ended in tragedy Monday morning after the suspect veered into oncoming traffic, hitting another vehicle head-on.

The incident began after Ontario Police received a report of a kidnapping at an Ontario convenience store at 6:45 a.m. As officers arrived on scene, the suspect drove away in a black pickup truck.

Police say they learned a woman was being held against her will inside the pickup. The officers gave chase, pursuing the pickup south on Highway 201.

Near the intersection with Southwest 18th Avenue, the pickup’s driver crossed over the centerline, slamming into an oncoming Ford SUV.

Police say the driver of the SUV was killed. His passenger was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The suspect driving the pickup was also seriously injured, and was taken to a nearby hospital. The body of a woman was found in the pickup’s passenger seat.

It’s not clear whether the woman died in the crash or was killed before the impact.

The names of the people involved have not been released, and it’s unclear what charges – if any – the pickup’s driver will face. Police say the wreck is being processed as a crime scene.

Highway 201 is closed as police investigate.
