Portland police arrest man in connection with 2-year-old’s overdose death

1018-willie-lee-harris-jrPortland, Ore. – According to the Portland Police Bureau, on October 10th homicide detectives responded to a Portland hospital to investigate death of a 2-year-old boy. The investigation revealed the boy died from a lethal dose of methadone.

On October 17th, police said they arrested the boy’s uncle, 35-year-old Willie Lee Harris Jr., in connection with the death. He was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of manslaughter, negligent homicide, criminal mistreatment and possession of heroin.

Detectives said they don’t believe Harris intentionally gave his nephew methadone, but it was left in a place where the boy could reach it.

Portland police said, “This case is a tragic reminder to keep all prescription drugs in a safe place where children do not have access to them.”
