Man drowns in Emigrant Lake

Update (09/06 12:07 p.m.) — Deputies have identified the man who reportedly drowned as 43-year-old Herminio Villasenor-Aguilar.


Update (09/05 4:35 p.m.) — Divers have found the body of the man who reportedly drowned at Emigrant Lake.


Emigrant Lake, Ore. – Emigrant Lake, Ore. — Dive teams are currently searching emigrant lake for a man who may have drowned in a swimming cove this afternoon. Witnesses told firefighters that he went into the water and didn’t resurface.

The possible drowning was called in around one this afternoon. For the first hour, mostly bystanders were searching the area. At one point, 8 or 9 people were in the water, diving.

We’re told the man was here with a friend, when he went into the water, and wasn’t seen after. His friend ran up to the paddle board rental, asked for help, and called 911.

That’s when people in the area got in the water and started looking.

Jackson County Fire District 5 Engineer Dave Meads said, “We organized everyone into a grid, kind of a grid search, and checked the area where he was last seen, but we weren’t able to locate anybody.”

He’s described as an adult male in his forties. His name has not been released. The search in ongoing.
