Preschool Promise: free access to early education statewide

Medford, Ore.– Preschoolers in the state are getting a free early educational boost thanks to a new law.  In 2015 the Oregon Legislature passed House Bill 3380 creating Preschool Promise, a new preschool system that’s publicly funded.

The pilot program is made specifically for low income families who may not be able to afford the cost of early education.

Southern Oregon Head Start is just one education provider that will be a part of the new program.

Nancy Nordyke, Head Start Director had this to say about the new program.

“Everything from birth or prenatally up to age five is just of critical importance because it really makes a huge difference in that child’s life.”

Head Start says there are 180 open slots for preschoolers with school starting September 12th.  The program will run statewide with locations in Jackson and Josephine counties.
