Republicans meet to select candidate for Bates’ senate seat

UPDATE: (08/23 10:28 PM) Medford, Ore. — The Republicans have picked Alan DeBoer as their candidate for the November general election.

DeBoer is a lifelong resident of Ashland as well as former mayor and owner of Town and Country Chevrolet.

“I don’t know the solutions to all the problems but when a problem comes to me, I think I can address it and come to a reasonable, sensible solution,” addressed DeBoer to the Republcian crowd.

Retired Colonel Dave Dotterer was also nominated, but did not accept.

Medford, Ore. — Jackson County republicans are meeting Tuesday night to put forth their candidate for the late Senator Alan Bates’ seat. But it’s a unique situation because only one candidate has stepped forward and that candidate is also running for a house seat.

Former Ashland Mayor Alan DeBoer, has thrown his hat into the ring for Bates’ vacant seat, and is the presumptive nominee. However, he is also running for Peter Buckley’s House District 5 seat.

“Our candidate (DeBoer) will no longer be that candidate,” Ken Fawcett of the Jackson County Republicans says, “and so we’ll have another meeting in order to nominate someone to run for the house seat.”

They’ll meet again on Monday to nominate someone for the house seat unless no one steps forward.
