Roseburg police chase down stolen ambulance

0324 Stolen Ambulance

Roseburg, Ore. – A woman was arrested after leading police on a chase in a stolen ambulance in Roseburg.

The News-Review reports that 28-year-old Jolene Marie Barnes of Roseburg allegedly stole an ambulance while paramedics were inside a West Stanton Street home tending to a sick child.

Greg Marlar, chief of Douglas County Fire District No. 2, said a fire engine crew spotted the ambulance entering the interstate, and didn’t recognize the driver.

A Douglas County deputy then located the ambulance as it exited I-5 and engaged the vehicle in a slow speed pursuit until it became stuck in traffic at an intersection of Southeast Jackson Street.

Barnes was subsequently arrested on suspicion of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, attempting to elude an officer, recklessly endangering another person, and interfering with a firefighter or EMT.

Marlar noted the narcotics equipment in the ambulance was double-locked to prevent tampering.
