Smoke from a prescribed burn rises above Ashland

0510 ashland smokeJackson County, Ore. — Smoke from a prescribed burn billowed above Ashland on Tuesday, just one of many scheduled fuel reduction efforts across the Rogue Valley.

According the the U.S. Forest Service, the burn above Ashland took place on City of Ashland land, near the White Rabbit Trailhead. It is intended to reduce potential fuel that could cause wildfires to become out of control.

Other burns near Applegate Lake, the Jackson Campground Area, and Trail Creek located in the Butte Falls Resource Area are scheduled for ignition on Tuesday.
