Starbucks sued for $5 million over too much ice

0502 StarbucksChicago, Ill. — Starbucks is being sued for filling cold drinks with too much ice.

A $5 million federal lawsuit claims Starbucks regularly overfills its cold drinks with ice instead of using the advertised amount of coffee or other liquid in its plastic cups.

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of an Illinois customer who accuses Starbucks of misleading consumers. It alleges an iced beverage advertised at 24 ounces contains about 14 ounces of fluid, and that ice is not a fluid or beverage.

The lawsuit seeks class-action status, but Starbucks says the suit is without merit.
