Ukrainian soldiers create ‘Iron Throne’ using scrap, spent artillery

1102-ukraine-iron-throneAvdiyivka, Ukraine (RTV, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty) — Ukrainian soldiers and volunteers fighting Russian-backed separatists built a copy of the throne from “Game of Thrones” TV series using battlefield scrap, which included spent artillery casings, defused rounds, and ammunition belts.

The over 1,300 pound structure stands perched on what looks like large-caliber artillery rounds, which authors say were shot in from the other side of the front line.

A motivational message in verse was recorded by one of the soldiers sitting in the throne.1102-ukraine-iron-throne-2

Creators of the throne plan to sell the throne to earn money for desperately needed equipment and supplies.

“I would like to put it somewhere near the entrance to the presidential office so that everyone, who enters, will understand that Ukraine always pays its debts,” said designer of the throne and volunteer fighter, Denys Bushtets.

There are plans to build a second throne as part of efforts to turn public attention to the war in east Ukraine.
