Company finds way to make avocados last longer

(CNN) – Agricultural company Apeel Sciences is helping to fight food waste by extending the shelf life of produce.

Their line of avocados launched Tuesday and is available at Costco and Harps Food Stores in the U.S. mid-west.

“Apeel Avocadoes” are marketed as having double the ripe time so they don’t go bad as quickly.

The company said it uses materials already found in fruits and vegetables to add extra skin or peel that helps preserve freshness.
