Oregon minimum wage to increase Thursday

minimum wage2Medford, Ore. — Beginning Thursday, minimum wage will increase for thousands of Oregon workers. In Jackson County alone, economists estimate that increase will affect about 12,000 jobs, mainly in retail trade and leisure and hospitality.

“That’s about 1 in 8 workers who will get that next bump up to the $9.75,” Regional economist Guy Tauer says.

“It’ll be really tough to say what the overall impact will be but certainly businesses will be making adjustments.”

Oregon now has the eighth highest minimum wage in the country. It will continue to increase until 2022.
