Central Point, Ore. — A home in Central Point is a complete loss, and a neighboring home is significantly damaged after becoming swiftly engulfed in flames overnight.
Multiple units responded to the fire on Brookdale Drive in Central Point right around 12:15 a.m. on Friday.
Neighbors say they heard a loud boom and saw the fence between the two homes engulfed in flames. Both homes were evacuated and no one was hurt.
The son of the homeowner, Justin Huynh, said he thinks the home’s air conditioning unit short circuited, sparking the blaze.
Fire District 3 Battalion Chief Jeff Bancroft said, “We were fighting two house fires at the same time, at one point some flammable liquid was inside one of the houses broke loose and went down the driveway basically a river of fire coming down the drive way engulfing the hose.”
The blaze was originally reported as a grass fire, but later upgraded to a structure fire as the flames engulfed the homes.
Fire crews were able to put out the fire within half an hour, but remained in the area overnight.
Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
