Ashland, Ore. – Protesters took to the streets in Ashland Monday night, marching against the city’s exclusion zone and any further city ordinances against the homeless population. Around 30 people began their march at 5 in the evening, night, starting at the Ashland Plaza.
“Excluding people is unconstitutional, and it’s a violation of their human rights, and we’re not going to stand for this,” organizer Eric Navickas said. “We’re going to continue to protest, to act out in civil disobedience, and to file litigation.”
The group walked up Main street to the Ashland City Council chambers, where a study session was taking place. On Tuesday, the Ashland City Council is discussing aggressive behavior in the downtown area, and possible solutions.
The city’s current exclusion zone means anyone with three violations in a six month period is banned from the downtown area.
