Ashland Police issue response to viral arrest video

0715 APD arrest

Ashland, Ore. — A video showing Ashland Police issue a citation to a homeless man is prompting a response from the department.

The May video shows five APD officers arresting the man after he would not accept a citation.

Several officers told the man, who they say was becoming increasingly uncooperative, to lower his voice and step back, eventually prompting them to place handcuffs on him.

In the video, the man claims to be autistic. You can view part 1 of the video here, and part 2 here (WARNING: Videos contain language that some viewers may find offensive.)

The Human Rights Oregon Facebook page prompted responses from both sides of the issue, to which APD put out a full statement.
