Beaverton tragedy has a tie to Medford

The family involved in a murder suicide near Portland has ties to the Rogue Valley.

Three people died in that murder suicide yesterday–a man and his two children.

According to DMV records, the family used to live here in Medford before moving to Beaverton this summer.

Beaverton police walked into a disturbing scene Wednesday afternoon.

“They saw an adult male and two children which they believed to be all deceased. Then they backed out to preserve the crime scene, and that’s when they heard an additional shot from inside,” BPD Officer Jeremy Shaw said.

According to police all shots were fired by Lakalo Enfield.

They say the 36-year-old father of two killed his 8-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son before taking his own life.

This wasn’t the first time police had been to the apartment complex in Beaverton.

Late last month, police responded to a domestic disturbance call.

They say there were no signs of physical injury, but Enfield agreed to leave the family home and head to Medford.

Neighbors in Enfield’s old Rogue Valley neighborhood don’t remember the family.

The family’s new neighbors are just hoping for peace for those involved.

“It’s just a really scary ordeal for the community and hopefully, ya know… prayers to all the family members and friends of those affected by it,” neighbor Alli Breen said.

Beaverton police say the mother of the children did not witness the shooting.

They say she left to get help for her children after hearing the first shots.

Investigators are still trying to understand the motivation behind the shootings.
