Coquille tribe concerned about federal forest management plan

0517 Coquille, BLMNorth Bend, Ore. — A local tribe is voicing their concerns against a proposed Bureau of Land Management forest management plan.

The Coquille Tribe said the BLM’s plan doesn’t satisfy legal and procedural obligations – or the best interests of the tribe.

Last month the BLM released their plan, which they said balances increasing job growth, tourism, and recreation, with protecting wildlife and water resources, harvesting more than 270 million board feet.

The tribe said they fear the plan would threaten their ability to manage their own forest, losing funding for services in the process.

Last month, 17 counties expressed their intent to file a lawsuit against the BLM to stop the plan from being implemented.
