Couple safe after two days of being stranded in the snow

0209 couple stranded 01Jackson County, Ore. – An elderly couple is safe today after two nights of being stuck in the snow.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, an 80-year-old man and his wife were driving on a section of Upper Graves Creek Road on Saturday when their 4WD pickup truck slid off the road and got stuck in the snow.

Officers say the couple did not know where they were going, and they only had a small bottle of water and a granola bar.

On Monday, the man left his wife with the truck and walked about mile attempting to get cell phone service. He was eventually able to call a family member. Search and Rescue crews for Jackson and Josephine County were then called to help locate the couple. There were no injuries reported.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public to always tell someone where you’re going and take supplies in case of an emergency. They say don’t rely on 4-wheel-drive vehicles and cell phone technology to keep you safe.
