Dangerous winter weather confronts nearly 160 million across US

(NBC News) More than 140 million people from Texas to Maine are under winter alerts as a massive storm dumps snow and ice across a huge swath of the country.

In Texas, where more than two million people are experiencing power outages, Governor Gregg Abbott has issued a disaster declaration, saying “the severity of the cold weather is unprecedented in Texas history.”

The frigid temperatures forced rolling blackouts to ease the burden on the power grid.

As the storm pushes east, the onslaught of ice and snow will continue.

The Northeast is expected to feel the full brunt of the storm on Tuesday.
