Explosion, fire at Grants Pass trailer park

GP TRAILER FIRE PICGRANTS PASS, Ore. —  UPDATED:  The investigation into a fire and explosion at an RV park continues in Grants Pass, but Police say hash oil production hasn’t be eliminated as a possible cause.

According to Lieutenant Todd Moran of the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety, their investigation has not ruled out the possibility that hash oil or honey butane oil was being manufactured at the time of the explosion.  It’s a process that is extremely dangerous.”

“Especially in an RV setting where it is very closed in and air tight.  Often times those fumes are just looking for a source of ignition,” says Lt. Moran.

Medical marijuana card holders are legally able to produce hash oil under state law.  No word yet on if the resident of the trailer is a medical marijuana card holder.

In January alone, 3 fires sparked in medford as a result of the volatile marijuana extraction process.

Four people are in the hospital, after an explosion at a Grants Pass mobile home, catching it on fire. The blaze also ignited ammunition in the trailer, sending bullets into the road.

“I heard a propane bottle go off, and then pretty soon i heard a bunch of shots, sounded almost like a war,” Tom said, a neighbor who didn’t wish to disclose his full name. “Bullets, shots… the cartridges were going off from the fire.”

Fire crews with the Grants Pass Fire Department rushed to the Royal Trailer Park on the 200 block of Lewis avenue, but not before the fire spread to another trailer. Medical personnel and police responded as well, taking care of four victims. One of them was a fifteen year old girl, who was seen running from the trailer with her clothes on fire.

“Her top… shirt, was laying on the ground smoldering where she ripped it off and threw it away,” Tom said.

A total of four people were taken to Three Rivers Medical Center for treatment, their conditions are not known at this time. The Red Cross is helping the families.  If you would like information on how you can help, click here.
