Explosion under investigation in Yreka

YREKA, Calif. – Police in northern California are investigating a reported explosion in the early morning hours of August 24.

The Yreka Police Department said at about 4:50 a.m. Friday, they received a number of 911 calls regarding a “loud explosion.”

Investigators believe the explosion occurred in the 600 block of West Miner Street in the vicinity of Yreka Park.

Evidence was collected and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATF) was contacted.

“We are not able to release any further information at this time due to the fact that the incident is still under investigation,” YPD said. “If anyone has information regarding this incident please contact the Yreka Police Department at 530-841-2300.”
