FAA requires drone registrations

DRONE STILL

Medford, Ore.–  With drones on many Christmas wish lists this year, airports everywhere are reminding consumers of the dangers of flying too close to airports.

Beginning December 21st, the Federal Aviation Administration will require drone operators to register their devices.  You can learn more and register your drone at www.faa.gov

At Medford’s airport, Director Bern Case says a few months ago a drone crashed within a half mile of the airport.  Had the owner known the rules, the incident would have been avoided.

“You shouldn’t fly them at all within 5 miles within the airport and anywhere you shouldn’t fly them over 400 feet high,” Case explains.

Case also warns against lasers.  Pointing them at aircraft can be extremely dangerous, not to mention illegal.
