Klamath County, Ore. – Police say icy conditions may have contributed to an accident near La Pine that left one person dead and two others injured.

According to Oregon State Police, troopers responded to a report of a two vehicle accident on Highway 97, 36 miles south of La Pine on Sunday. They say a 1998 Honda Civic was traveling northbound on the highway when it lost control on the icy roadway. It appears to have crossed into the opposite lane and collided with a 1994 Mitsubishi 3000GT.

According to police, the driver of the Mitsubishi, 22-year-old Justin Guy, and the passenger, 21-year-old Allen Reeves, were transported to Sky Lakes Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Both men were from Klamath Falls.

Officers say the driver of the Honda, a 49-year-old California man, was pronounced dead on scene. His name is being withheld until his family is notified.

OSP says both lanes of the highway were closed for over three hours to allow for an investigation. Police are seeking any witnesses to the crash. If you have any information that may help officers with their investigation, you are urged to call Senior Trooper Creed Cummings at 503-585-5073.
