0307 norcal 02Yuba County, Cal. — A California man ignored warning signs and drove his car into flood waters, killing his passenger.

Officers say the man was driving northbound on Highway 65 Saturday night in Yuba County California. They say he drove around blockades on the roads, which were closed due to flooding. That’s when the car became submerged in water.

Chief Wade Harrison says the passenger, a 48-year-old California woman, was underwater for about 15 minutes and drowned. The man driving, identified by police as 55-year-old Neng Yang of Sacramento, was able to get out of the car.

Officers say that Neng was intoxicated at the time of the accident. He was arrested on Sunday and is being lodged at the Yuba County Jail on two charges of DUI with injury and vehicular manslaughter. His bail has been set to $250,000.
