Fatal Highway 101 accident update

ACCIDENT

Douglas County, Ore. – The names of the people involved in yesterdays fatal collision on Highway 101 have been released. It happened around 2 p.m. yesterday near Milepost 217, just four miles south of Reedsport. Oregon State Police say a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer was traveling northbound on Highway 101 when it crossed the center line and crashed head on with a 2000 Chevy Silverado. The driver of the Mercury, 32-year-old Reedsport woman Julie Bowen was taken to the hospital.
All three occupants of the Chevy were also taken to the hospital. 40-year-old Heather Walseth from Evans, Washington died at the hospital. The driver of the Chevy, 43-year-old Kelly Dennison from Buckley, Washington was treated and released. 67-year-old Donald Dennison from Mt. Angel, Oregon is still being treated at Sacred Hear Riverbend in Springfield. Both directions of Highway 101 were blocked for over four hours. The investigation is ongoing.
