FDA approves rapid coronavirus test

STAMFORD, Conn. (NBC) – Some people will soon know if they have COVID-19 in less than an hour.

Over the weekend, the FDA approved the first rapid diagnostic test that can be conducted entirely at the point of care.

It will be able to provide results in roughly 45 minutes.

It currently takes at least 24 hours for test results to come back because they are sent to centralized labs.

The manufacturer, Cepheid, says the tests will begin to be shipped out next week.
