Firework explosion injures two Klamath Falls men

klamathKlamath Falls, Ore. — Two Klamath Falls men are in the hospital and multiple people are facing charges after a firework explosion.

Police and medical crews were called to a home about 2 miles south of Klamath Falls on Highway 97 Friday morning.

Klamath County Sheriff Frank Skrah told NBC5 News that several people were dismantling some mortar-rocket fireworks. He said after they put the pieces into a ball, and began to light it, it exploded as they threw it in the air.

Two men lost fingers and were taken by helicopter to a Medford hospital.

The Oregon State Police Bomb Squad was called in to check the area as a precaution.

The sheriff’s office hopes this accident serves as a reminder for people about the danger of fireworks.
