“He was always smiling,” friends of Medford man killed want answers

Medford, Ore.– Most pictures of Isaac De Leon capture a big, bright smile.”His laugh made you laugh he was always laughing always smiling.”

His close friends said it’s one they’ll miss.

“I feel like part of my life is gone,” said Julian Devos. He can’t understand why someone would kill his roommate and best friend.

“Anyone who can that easily shoot someone in the chest…that’s scary.”

Devos and another close friend, Levi Shepherd were in Downtown Medford with 27-year-old De Leon Saturday night. They said it was a normal night out with the boys.

Shepherd and De Leon had just left The Bohemian Club. It’s a restaurant, bar in downtown. Shepherd left for a minute to get his truck, he heard a gun shot and came to realize the shooting happened right around the corner.

“I just dropped everything I saw him laying on the ground. I sprinted to him I got on my knees.”

It was around 2:15 am and Shepherd said he did what he could.

“He was just looking at me out of the corner of his eye blood was coming out his nose and he had a tear running down his eye.”

And said he was glad he could be there for his friend, but the pain is unbearable. “Now that image of my friend is in my head for the rest of my life and I don’t know how to deal with that right now.”

Shepherd and Devos both said they will continue to honor their friend, through the pictures and memories they shared together.

“It couldn’t have happened to a better guy so much times was making other people happy..He’ll be greatly missed by half this town,” said Devos.

To help pay for funeral costs, friends have set up an account under Isaac De Leon’s name at Rogue Credit Union.
