Insulin prices skyrocket

(KING) — Doctors diagnosed Molly Boll with diabetes about three decades ago, but the live-saving insulin she needs has skyrocketed in price over the past few years.

“I live on a very fixed income with no margin of error for having to spend about $1,400 a month on drugs,” said Boll.

Boll is among the more than 19 million Americans the Centers for Disease Control estimates do not take their medication as prescribed because of the cost.

The National Average Drug Acquisition Cost database shows that insulin prices have roughly doubled since 2012.

Many diabetic patients blame price gouging by drug companies, which are left largely unchecked by government regulations.
