Jacksonville parent honored for 7 years of volunteer service

Jackson County, Ore — A Jacksonville parent who went above and beyond to help her school was recognized at a commissioners meeting Wednesday morning.

Sandy Metwally was given a community service award by the Jackson County commissioners for her 7 years of volunteer service at Jacksonville Elementary.

Metwally says it’s an honor that she shares with her family.

“I love helping the kids, I love being involved and making a difference for them, I love the creativity side of it, I love working with the crew at Jacksonville, i just love working with good people,” said Metwally.

Metwally was instrumental in fundraising for the school’s new playground and had a leading role as a volunteer for the school’s theater program.

Metwally says her volunteering days are done for now as both her children are moving on to a different school.
