Juveniles allegedly set fire to stolen vehicle in Cave Junction

0804 Vehicle FireCave Junction, Ore. – Oregon State Police are investigating after a stolen vehicle was allegedly set on fire by two juveniles in Cave Junction.

The Illinois Valley Fire District said firefighters responded to a vehicle fire and reports of shots fired in the woods east of Swayer Avenue on Tuesday.

The fire was quickly contained and Josephine County Sheriff’s deputies arrived to investigate.

Firefighters said two minors reportedly witnessed the arson and told authorities that two people had set the vehicle on fire and pulled weapons on them. Shots were also said to have been fired.

According to the IVFD, the juveniles eventually confessed that they had started the fire and gave a false report. There were no weapons or other suspects.

The case has been turned over to OSP for further investigation and potential prosecution.
