Tonight, the Eagle Point School District and union are still negotiating the terms of a stalemate contract.
This, as rumors fly regarding rowdy behavior on the picket line.
A mess, that’s about a whole lot more than the money. Andrea Dabbs, who works at White City Elementary says, “I’m choosing to lose my own money so your child has the best learning environment possible.”
Right now, many issues are still on the table: from prep time v.s. instructional time, to subletting services.
Michael Remick of the District Offices says, “They’re exercising their right to strike, and they have every right to do that. If they cross the line into illegal behavior that becomes another issue.” Yesterday, the district says a parent claims they were swarmed at White City Elementary by union workers. Allegedly, the staff called out obscenities and climbed onto her car.
But teachers, who were there say that’s not so, “No, no, no. I was there yesterday, if it was the parent that was flipping us off as she came into the school. Nobody swarmed her. We were on the curbs. She yelled i’m a parent, and like I said was flipping us off. after they left, a teacher said her kids were grown and gone,” says Karen Blaetter of White Mountain Middle School.
And today the district increased security around their building, bringing in 6 officers, in response to the alleged misconduct. Teachers say they’re frustrated by these
claims. “The district is painting their picture, and they’re not really painting it truthfully to get the public riled up against teachers or unions in general,” says Tom Chose, also from White Mountain.
Unsettled feelings outside as the contract continues to remain unsettled.
