Prepaid cell phone users may have to pay an additional monthly charge if Governor John Kitzhaber has his way.
That the Kitzhaber administration wants to add an additional 75-cent-a-month tax on prepaid cell phones to help support 9-1-1 services.
Regular cell phone and landline customers already pay the tax. Several cellular companies including T-Mobile and Verizon are against the tax fearing prepaid customers won’t pay up, leaving the companies to pay the tax themselves.
