Ashland, Ore. — Fire season is here and that means homeowners need to make sure grass and shrubs around their houses are trimmed down.
This week, fire officials in Ashland began inspecting properties of up to one acre for weeds that are taller than four inches in height. Property owners are expected to maintain grass on their property, parkrows and right of way areas abutting their property.
If fire officials discover tall grass or shrubs around houses, homeowners could be slapped with a citation.
For property owners who have more than an acre of land, requirements are slightly different.
Weeds and grass still cannot be more than four inches in height. However, there must be a buffer strip within 30 feet of a structure and/or to the lot line.
There must also be a buffer strip 15 feet wide around the lot and a 15 foot buffer next to access roads and driveways through properties.
