Ashland, Ore. — Fire fighters working in Ashland say a well-kept lawn is the reason why some homeowners still have a home.
A grass fire broke out in a field around a home in the 100 block of Pompadour Drive Monday afternoon.
The blaze came within inches of the home but fire fighters say the dry grass had been mowed and the house was surrounded with fire-resistant plants which more than likely saved the home.
Chief Darin Welburn with Fire District 5 said this is a good reminder for all homeowners as we are quickly approach fire season “You’re running out of time to do those right now so if you haven’t been out cutting brush getting that defensible space around your residence it’s not too late to complete that.”
Fire crews say an electric fence started the fire.
