Ashland local becomes starting pitcher for Kansas City in World Series

Ashland, Ore. — An Ashland high school graduate’s dreams came true Friday on baseball’s biggest stage.

1997 Ashland high school grad Jeremy Guthrie is the starting pitcher for the Kansas City Royals in Friday’s World Series game 3 against the Giants.

NBC5 got a chance to sit down with Guthries parents, who still live in Ashland, as you can imagine Guthries parents are absolutely thrilled that their son is living out his dream in the World Series tonight and they say they’re rooting for number 11 all the way!

Ashland, Ore.– Clarice and Steven Guthrie are rooting hardfor their son.

“Go Royals!”

The Ashland couple can’t believetheir son, Jeremy Guthrie, a 1997 Ashland High grad is a Kansas City Royals Pitcher. And he’s playing in the World Series against the San Francisco Giants.

“It’s just nice because you don’t think about it. You hope they make it but you don’t know what they’re going to do and most guys don’t play in the World Series,” said Steven Guthrie.

That has baseball local baseball fans cheering for their hometown boy, even Giants fans.

“Part of me is going to be cheering on Kansas City, you know, Jeremy Guthrie. It’s a local boy and a wonderful story,” said Robin Eichenberg.

“I was thrilled for him. It’s great to see a local boy do well,” said Ross Rampy.

Despite playing for a decade in the majors, Guthrie’s parents still can’t believe their youngest son is at the peak of his sport. Playing in front of the world.

“They’ve done great. It’ll be icing on the cake if they win the series.”

And regardless of what happens between the lines, Jeremy’s already a champion in his proud parents eyes.

Through of all his success, Jeremy Guthrie has kept his hometown of Ashland in his heart. Just last year the former Grizzly quarterback donated $500,000 to Ashland High for a brand new artificial turf football field.
