The man police say is responsible for the District Attorney’s Office bombing last Wednesday, appeared for his arraignment in a Jackson County Circuit courtroom Thursday afternoon.
46-year-old Alan Leroy McVay appeared on a television screen from the Jackson County Jail. According to his criminal records, it’s a place he’s familiar with.
“We did file charges for Mr. McVay for arson in the first degree, burglary in the first degree, possession and manufacture of a destructive device and criminal mischief in the 1st degree,” said Beth Heckert, Jackson County District Attorney.
However, this isn’t McVay’s first run-in with the law. He’s no stranger to the criminal justice system.
“We are prosecuting Mr. McVay for additional charges unrelated to this that we’ve had pending for quite some time,” said Heckert.
Including the DA bombing, there are now three open cases against him. One involving possession of meth, the other is quite extensive, involving 10 counts of first degree theft and burglary as well as a felon in possession of a firearm with his co-defendent and girlfriend Molly Jane Williams. They both allegedly worked together to steal 30 guns valued at $10,000 dollars, jewelry, a flat screen TV, among other items from homes in the Central Point area.
McVay also has a laundry list of criminal charges from 1989 onwards. They range from possession of meth, to theft and burglary charges.
Alan Leroy McVay is on $5-million security bail. The prosecution said that’s because they say an associate of McVay’s has access to money or has contact with someone who has access to money. He’s expected back in court on November 29th at 4pm for his preliminary hearing.
