Boulder Smashes Into Home

A Klamath County family is cleaning up tonight after a 3 ton boulder came crashing down a hillside, and into their home.

Jeanine Wells was nearly hit by a boulder when it smashed into her home Tuesday afternoon…

“What do you do, stop living because of a rock This is my dream – it’s destroyed.”

Corey Wells says his wife started screaming his name just before the rock hit…

“And it was probably forty yards up behind the house when I first saw it, and I had time enough to stand up, and basically cover my face – and then it was next to me.”

“To me it sounded like a freight train coming through my house.” Recalled Jeanine Wells. “It was in slow motion, too – because I could see the grass, and the debris.”

The rock took out an interior wall before smashing through their living room floor.

While his home was nearly destroyed, Corey Wells says that he and his family are lucky to be alive…

“When it hit the house, it was spinning to the right. If it had went straight through, it would have hit the kids.”

While rocks pose a threat to highway and rail traffic along the eastern side of Upper Klamath Lake…the Wells family has learned that they’re not even safe at home.

Corey Wells says his insurance company is reviewing their policy to determine if they’re covered or not. Wells adds that he plans to build a reinforced wall behind his home.
